Abstract

In this theoretical article, we initially discuss Ethnoscience and Ethnochemistry, a field of research and study that seeks to understand and value popular knowledge and practices, other ways of doing science. Our aim is to understand Ethnochemistry, which is a more recent field, and its educational dimension based on works found in the literature in a brief state of the art. We understand that Ethnochemistry, as an Ethnoscience, can't limit yourself only to the chemical knowledge and practices of another group, although there may be similarities with Chemistry, one must initially understand popular knowledge as a general science that transcends the disciplinary barriers of academy, valuing and respecting them. With this discussion, and from the analysis, we found that the educational dimension has stood out, bringing possibilities to insert popular knowledge in the teaching and learning of Chemistry.
