IN SEEKING FOR SIMILITUDES...: THE DIVERSITY IN URBANIZATION AND IN URBAN DISPERSION ARISES IN THE STATE OF RIO DE JANEIRO IN POST-1990

Abstract

Deep changes in urbanization took place in Brazil in the post-1990. Under the influence of the globalization of the economy, the emergence of agents, advancement of communications, technologies, and neoliberalism, with precarious answers are given to society by the official staff. New urban phenomena`s take place, without sufficient normative and theoretical apparatus, with reduced role of the State, to confront to private investments, urban expansion, multiplication of human settlements, with restructuring of territories. This paper constitutes a systematization of results of researchs developed by the authors, about the example of the fluminense territory, with the subject to identify the modifications of the use and occupation of the soil, under new economic pacts on different geographical scales – or determined by capital – in regional and urban projects, with their deployments. The methodology incorporates observations in loco, iconographic and documentary survey-transescalares analysis. The results proved to be revealing urban diversity and its dispersion, between new centralities and territorialities, from projects implemented, being implemented, or under imminent prospect of achieving.
