This article aims to discuss the constitution and the cultural properties restitution requests interposed to the Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in case of Illicit Appropriation (ICPRCP) in its first decade of activities (1980-1989). The article is an outcome of an undergraduate research project linked to the “In the backstage of UNESCO: strategies for a network governance of world heritage (1970-2020)” research project, sponsored by the Univille Research Support Fund. As a result, the text presents reflections concerning the Committee positionings in cases that discuss the illicit appropriation of cultural property of heritage concern, as well as problematize the its role in restitution requests interposed to the ICPRCP in the 1980s.
