The space forms (including structures and function) last for a determinate time and its movement requests permanent reinterpretation. Through the historical geography as a method to study the public markets theme lead us to the investigation of this space form and its genesis, not leaving behind the definition that society has attributed to it in different moments of history. The public markets are one of the first forms that become the maninature separation noted, in other words, from the moment that man stops producing its own existence, announcing other rhythms for the social time/space, through the products trade. To validate that method importance for geography, we will take as example the public markets in different metropolises: Barcelona, Paris and São Paulo. The metamorphoses verified in each one fo the public markets in those metropolises reveal its adaptation to the different rationalities of the social production of the urban space.
