To understand current Brazilian urbanization trends, one must take account of a multitude of differences, such as the diversity of rhythms and of rates of change and the varying intersection of the scales of analysis. Urbanization is now intrinsically linked to the structuration of territory and comprises the reproduction of the means of production, the reproduction of the labor force and of the family and, consequently, also the spatial distribution of population and of productive activities.
