This paper aims to analyze the precariousness of work as one of the components of urban problems in the context of the hegemony of financial capital. Based on the argument that work is central to social life, analyzing it as a social practice offers a contribution to understanding the urban phenomenon. Our intention is to relate the conditions of workers in the tertiary sector, more precisely those who work in the retail trade of urban supplies, with the increasing impoverishment of the reproductive conditions of the worker. Therefore, we intend to relate urban studies, from a critical perspective that considers space a material dimension of social reality, with studies on new morphologies of work to promote an understanding of the relations between urbanization, the precariousness of work and globalization.
