Author Guidelines

CITIES will publish, in continuous format, texts containing detailed studies or completed empirical or bibliographical research, as well as theoretical-methodological debates, are preferred. At the discretion of the Editorial Team, relevant texts and classic works of national and international dissemination may be published, respecting the rules regarding copyright, as well as bibliographic reviews.

Scientific articles should preferably have between 30,000 and 75,000 characters in their complete document, typed in .doc, .docx or .odt format, with 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman font size 12 and without indentation and paragraph spacing.

If the work comes from research that has been sponsored by an institution, this information must be mentioned in a footnote without identifying the authors in the evaluation phase. Authors should be careful when preparing the text as a whole, that is, not inserting any personal identification in footnotes, figure legends or references at the end of the text.

Scientific articles must have an abstract of between 100 and 250 words, in at least three languages: Portuguese (mandatory), English, Spanish or French. The title and keywords (maximum 6) must also be translated into the languages in which the abstract is presented.

Texts submitted by non-Portuguese-speaking authors will be accepted, provided they are written in English, French or Spanish.

References to authors should be made in the body of the text, indicating the last name in uppercase and lowercase, followed by the year of publication of the work. Example: (Silva, 2007), Silva (2007). If there is more than one work with the same surname, published in the same year, the letters of the alphabet in lowercase must be added, after the year of publication, in order of citation in the references presented at the end of the text. Example: (Silva, 2007a), (Silva, 2007b), (Silva, 2007c).

Literal citations of excerpts from texts by other authors, if they have up to three lines, must be kept in the body of the text between quotation marks and, if they have more than three lines, they must be highlighted with a 4 cm indentation, in Times New Roman font 10, without quotes.

Expressions or passages in the text that the author wants to highlight should be underlined. Expressions or excerpts kept in a foreign language must be written in italics. Example: tout court, a priori, vis-à-vis. Authors should not use bold, which is reserved for text titles and subtitles.

The titles, written in bold, must be written in UPPERCASE when main and Uppercase and lowercase when subtitles. Only two levels of titles are allowed: TITLES and Subtitles. In the case of subtitles, only the first letter should be capitalized, except for proper names.

Figures should be sent in digital format (JPG, GIF, TIF), at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, without frame, with graphic scale and legible captions. They must also be inserted in the body of the text. Do not send images in PDF format.

References and citations must follow the guidelines of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). It is essential that the names of the authors in the references at the end of the text are complete. Example: SILVA, José Pedro da; SOUZA, Aline; SANTOS, Rui Paiva. Titles of works must be highlighted in italics.

Notes must be inserted at the foot of the page where they are indicated by superscript Arabic numerals. Example: neighbourhood¹, cities², metropolisation³.

It will be the responsibility of the authors to send the text obeying the standard rules of the language in which it is written. In case of need for revision, the texts will be sent to the authors for correction.

The content and opinions expressed by the authors of the texts are their sole responsibility, and do not necessarily represent the opinion of the members of the Editorial Team of CIDADES.

The selection of texts will be carried out by two referees of the Scientific Council, or by ad hoc consultants. In cases where there is no consensus in the opinion, the arbitration will be decided by means of a third opinion.

In the selection process, three situations are considered: text accepted for publication, text forwarded to the author for modifications, or text not accepted. The texts, after being modified by the authors, will be forwarded to the same reviewers who evaluated the first version.

CIDADES will not promote any form of remuneration for copyright and the authors, by submitting their texts, confirm their awareness of its open dissemination.

Submissions that do not comply with these rules will be returned to the authors.
