Abstract

The social concern of art in the American continent in the first half of the 20th century can certainly be related to the influence exerted by Mexican muralism and echoes of socialist realism propagated by political parties and artistic movements. This preoccupation was sensitive in both the United States and Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s, and can be quickly observed through the trajectories of Jackson Pollock and Candido Portinari.
