Abstract

The communication media are institutions that produce and distribute information. Study them in a particular historical context allows to know the power relations that are established at one time, as well as identify their ability in making representations that shape meanings and affirm individual and collective memories. In this paper we try to reflect the construction of meanings produced by the newscast Jornal Nacional about the military invasion of the National Steel Company, during a strike by steelworkers in 1988, using the definition of Rüsen to historical culture and historical consciousness.
