This work analyses the immigrants’ trajectory as precursors of the local development. We made the biographic study of Luís Szczerbowski who settled down in Três Barras-SC at the beginning of the 20th century. He worked as a land dealer in the sawmill Southern Brazil Lumber and Colonization Company, being also an apiarist, an agricultor, a trader, a cigarettes factory’s owner and a photographer. We have based ourselves in oral and written sources added to bibliographic references. We elucidated aspects from the relation among the Polish immigrants interwoven to that sawmill economical power.
