This article aims to document some experiences of Dr. Carmelita Afonseca Silva during her stay in Brazil for her doctorate. The reflections are the outcome of a discussion, in which we address aspects related to the construction of Cape Verdean identity, the whitening project imposed in both Brazil and Cape Verde through mestizaje; as well as the women's movement in Cape Verde. We adopted a methodology of co-authorship with the interviewee, connecting her speeches with other black intellectuals, seeking to blacken feminist epistemology and race relations. As a result of this sharing, we highlight Carmelita's invitation for us, subalternized subjects who speak from the global south, to devote more time and attention to getting to know Africa's territorial and cultural heterogeneity in order to establish networks that can strengthen us against the hegemony of the global north.
