This paper is an effort, albeit partially, to synthesize the discussions on theories of image and art within the context of the visual turn, with a particular focus on the consequences of these reflections and approaches for historical research. Based on bibliographical research and in dialog with other articles that strive in the same direction, we sought to identify the general principles, recurring themes, and common ground between authors who have dedicated themselves to reflecting on the specificities of images, both in the societies in which they were produced and in which they circulated. In addition, we have incorporated into the discussion authors from similar areas who, despite having convergent propositions, remain separated by disciplinary divisions. The text also seeks to point out the internal movements within the disciplinary practices of History in order to understand the limits and similarities with the visual turn.
