The study aims to present the environmental history of the Cerrado in the agricultural frontier of the Northern Goiás from 1960 to 1980, with the cultivation of upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) and to highlight the socio-environmental consequences. It is a research based on several bibliographical sources, documents and oral reports from farmers, agronomists and agricultural technicians who emphasize that they were attracted to the region mainly by low land prices, financial support from government programs and technical guidance. But with cuts in government programs, there was a decline in rice cultivation and the destruction of the agricultural model implemented, contributing to environmental degradation and the introduction of exotic grasses.
