The article analyzes the challenges of education and history teaching during the coronavirus pandemic in Espírito Santo, Brazil, in the quest to understand its impacts on teaching activities. It questions the precarization of the profession and teachers’ sickening (OLIVEIRA, 2003; SIMÕES; SALIM; TAVARES, 2008; FIRMINO; FERREIRA, 2020), by dialoguing with the premises by Schmidt (1999), Bittencourt (2008) and Cainelli and Schmidt (2004) regarding history teaching. Based on Bloch (2001), the analysis of the responses to the online questionnaire of thirty-three teachers from Espírito Santo who work in Elementary Education showed: a) the deepening of the problems that already exist in the context of teaching work due to the pandemic; and b) the weaknesses and the little effectiveness of the teaching-learning processes, in general, and concerning the history subject, in particular.
