This article aims to present the result of the extension project “Debates sobre a Lei 10.639/03: Prática e Reflexão sobre História e Cultura Africana e Afro-brasileira em Campos dos Goytacazes”. The work was based on research carried out with textbooks from the municipal network of Campos dos Goytacazes and its approach to Law 10.639 / 03. The analysis was focused on the chapters where contents about African and Afro-Brazilian History and Culture appear in the textbooks of the municipal network that cover the theme. The main engine for the construction of this work is the search for the representation of black people in textbooks. For this, we ask the following question: would the History of Africa and Afro-Brazilian culture be portrayed only from the perspective of slavery in the pages of textbooks? Starting from this questioning and from a dialogue with decolonial.
