In this article we try to discuss the idea of modernization elaborated by a portion of the intellectuals during the dictatorship, mainly in the decade of 1970. To a large extent the article seeks to analyze the production of the intellectuals who worked in Santa Catarina, especially Alcides Abreu and Nereu do Valle Pereira, linked to the governments that emerged from the civil-military coup of 1964. In this analysis we can see the production of a political culture shared by writers, teachers and other intellectuals, who collaborated with the construction of a discourse of legitimation of the dictatorship.
