During the period of Brazil Colonia, the number of villages and cities progressed gradually. These locations became districts of a municipality, or became the main municipality, in an almost generational relationship, meaning family or historical ties between places (Santos, 1986). Based on Santos' (1986) theoretical proposal, this article aims to present a discussion on the links between places and their influence on the formation of new places, in an almost parental relationship. The Analysis was carried out from the formation of the Salgado Paraense Region, which is located on the Atlantic coast of the state of Pará. This analysis was constructed from the discussions by Milton Santos, Murillo Marx, Roberto Lobato Corrêa, among other authors, also using data available in Baena (1885), in the Atlas Geográfica Escolar do Estado do Pará, in FAPESPA (2021) and in the Censuses (2000, 2010). Over the years, the process of territorial splitting off and creation of new municipalities showed, in Salgado Paraense, the generational links between places, relationships and interdependencies that we can call parental. This was the significant variable for the initial understanding of urban generations, configured in city families.
