LONDRINA’S SITUATION

Abstract

The situation of Londrina (Paraná) is analyzed in this article in accordance with the concepts of the “prospective analysis of territories”, developed at the Maison de la Géographie de Montpellier, in the 1990s. The analysis starts out with a discussion of statistical maps that depict Londrina at the scales of the country, of the South-Southeast region of Brazil and of the state of  Paraná. The city is then moved to a different analytical plane and the focus of attention is placed on the relationships (“fields of force”) it maintains at the national and continental scales, as well as within the framework of the great natural ensembles, of the zones of urban and industrial influence and of the main continental roads. The article draws upon data provided by the Environmental Atlas of Londrina, 2005.
