This text composes a tribute to Mauricio Abreu, a man who dedicated himself to the study of the relations between time and space, including theoretical reflections and empirical studies, particularly on the historical geography of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Spatial diffusion and space periodization are common
themes involving time and space; namely the expansion of objects, people, and ideas over time on the one side, and temporal sections of space on the other.
