This work investigates how the configuration of the urban street network and the spatial arrangement of buildings have influenced the locomotion of people in the city center area of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, over the years. Based on the Space Syntax methodology, the article presents a comparative graphic analysis between building projects and street maps which allows us to succinctly understand part of the movement of people in different periods. Morphological considerations are also made on the relationship between formation, growth and movement in the city center of Porto Alegre through time.
