This paper concerns the intentionality in the appropriation of the meanings which are present in urban landscapes. If we assume the semiotic concept of culture developped by Geertz, we shall consider the meanings which cultures build as one of the dimensions that constitute space. More specifically, we want to comprehend political demonstrations as movements which may make use of the meanings which are present in urban landscapes in order to build their discourses, taking landscape, in a theatrical metaphor, as both a stage and a script.
