The text reflects the impact of technological innovations in the contemporary urban experience, featuring the relations between technique and action, between power and information and between spatial appropriation and rationalization of collective life. Special emphasis is given to certain characteristics of dominant action, which now reshape the (re)arrangement of the urban by means of the widening of the production arena; of the multiplication of financial products; of the diffusion of parameters of identity that are “adjusted” to present time and to the material and immaterial dimensions of the new economy. The text calls attention to some current challenges of social research and is supported by critical geography, by theories of action and by some manifestations of cultural change that characterize late modernity
