This article analyses the restrictions of a critical thinking which – due to the privilege it gives to the materiality of reality, and particularly of space – does not encompass the necessary critic to a society determined by abstractions. In this framework, the physical analyses of modern reality have been privileged detrimental to social criteria. The renouncement of the contradiction between abstract and concrete as fundament of the criticism has lead to a situation in which the latter becomes “positivised”, which restricts its dialectical and negative potential. The aim of this article was to assert about the necessity to reflect on the space as an abstraction.
