The article is focalized on the relation between urban change and spaces of consumption, framing it within the globalization process and, in particular, in the context of the impact that it plays on cities, the places where the economic and political logics and the social consequences of global geopolitics are concretized. After a general introduction, the focus shifts on the micro-geographies that the relationship between city and consumption produces at the Euro-Mediterranean scale, diversifying the process of enhancement of the urban space implemented in the socalled strong regions by those implemented in the weak ones. The forms of socio-spatial polarization and insecurity, so as the impact of urban regeneration policies on the local geopolitics, are discussed with particular attention to the urban areas in Southern Europe, which is not only a peripheral area within the EU but also a border within a larger space that embraces the whole Mediterranean area.
