The article analyzes the case study of Chiaia in Naples, the most attractive neighbourhood in terms of the interaction between the new micro-geographies of retail and luxury consumption and the new forms of leisure, entertainment and culture typical of the new urban economy. After an introduction on the role that new activities play in the "creative" central neighbourhoods, the attention is focused on the transformations generated by the policies of urban regeneration and by the impact of retail capital on the "district of elegance", which has converted in the neighbourhood of luxury consumption, outlets, franchising and in the heart of the movida and entertainment. The juxtaposition of different consumption practices between public and private spaces needs to be problematized as it is generating new conflicts, analyzed through the prism of the changing retail and consumption places.
