CITIES AND URBAN CENTRALITIES IN THE AMAZON REGION: FROM THE DIFFENT TERRITORIAL ARRANGEMENTS TO THE DIFFUSE URBANIZATION PROCESS

The article analyzes elements of the regional particularity in the Amazon Region in face of the diffuse urbanization process which is in progress in the regional context. Considering the different territorial arrangements in the regional history as well as the modernization of the space today, the paper intends to understand the role of the middle cities and the importance of the urban phenomenon for the recent changes in the Amazon Region. Finally, it is suggested to recognize three main urban centralities as a possible basis for to think the urban-diversity and the spatial peculiarities in the extensive Brazilian territory.
