During the 1970’s, the Gogô community, in Mariana (Minas Gerais State, Brazil), was surprised by the dismantling of its eighteenth century church, devoted to Our Lady of SaintAnne. Four decades later, still mobilized, the community plays a part in the restitution process, starting with the recovery of lost architectural pieces. This paper examines, through reports from residents and newspaper articles, a rich opportunity that presents itself to the school: getting closer to the community's memory, promoting the recognition and valorization of its cultural heritage.
