This paper dwells on Jörn Rüsen's approach to the relationship between research and historical writing. Even though methodological operations are essential to validate History's scientific quality, methodical regulation materialized by research does not forbid the production of meaning operated through Historiography. Method and meaning are not mutually exclusive; they are seen as constituent principles of the Science of History.
