The article aims to give visibility to contemporary migration processes, whose starting point is the city of Criciuma - Santa Catarina. In recent years it has been highlighted by the high number migrants who leave the city for the United States or Europe, particularly Italy. These migration processes promoted new family arrangements in which women - whether those who migrate or those who become the “family chief” in their city of origin - play an important role in maintaining the migratory project as well as new family configurations.
