Abstract

This article analyzes the social and economical aspects of the place known as the West of Santa Catarina from the late 19th century to 1930. Based on post-mortem inventories and other sources, it seeks to establish some historical approaches on demography, land occupation, productive activities, work relations, and other traits of social and private life in this region.
