Abstract

In this article, we sought to understand the role of Brazilian Navy in the process of Brazilian alignment to the United States in World War II. Considering the importance of the military in the dictatorship of Estado Novo and the division between pro-Allied and pro-Axis in the leadership of the regime, the Brazilian Navy favored a pro-US position. It is important to point out the formation of an internal consensus in the navy in favor to the United States, result of two issues: the influence of the American Naval Mission and the US support to the renewal of the Brazilian war fleet.
