Seventy years after the end of the Estado Novo and World War II, the memories of German immigrants’ descendants who lived through this period in a town of Rio Grande do Sul, bring up memories of a time marked by prohibitions regarding their representations of ethnic character. By means of narratives obtained via the methodology of Oral History, and memoirs, this paper analyzes situations involving different time frames: the experiences lived in a past related to painful memories amid a present marked by ethnic festivities.
Keywords: Estado Novo, Ethnicity, Rio Grande do Sul.
