The purpose of this article is to reflect on how the 40th anniversary of the civil-military coup was represented in Blumenau's written press. A place where discourses emerge, memories erupt and silences are produced, marked by various divisions, the newspaper is a fundamental source for the history of the present time. The conclusion is that the written press was an important instrument for reflection and debate in the public sphere, which promoted discussions about the legacies, ruptures and permanence of the military dictatorship.
