Active teaching methodologies are still a subject little-known or discussed within schools. Focused on the protagonism of students, their use proposes that they actively participate in the teaching and learning process. Currently, there are several well-known methodologies, such as: flipped classroom, project-based learning, problem-based learning, gamification, station rotation, and the maker culture. This text aims to present an analysis of the articles published in the 45 volumes of the journal ‘Química Nova na Escola’ (in Portuguese, Brazil) from 1995 to May 2023, identifying the texts that address aspects related to the use of active methodologies in the teaching of Chemistry, especially the maker culture, seeking to identify which methodologies are most used in the teaching of this discipline. Of all articles published until May 2023, approximately 6.4% deal with the use of active methodologies, especially the use of games and case studies, and no article was identified on the maker culture. We realize that the use of new teaching methodologies is present in classrooms but is still little explored in research on Chemistry Education.
