Workbook on Financial Education in Mathematics Teaching for EJA:

An Intersubjective Analysis

Abstract

This study investigates the feasibility of a Workbook focused on Financial Education for Youth and Adult Education (EJA) classes. The objective is to understand how this material can support teaching and learning, as well as contribute to the retention of EJA students in school. The research seeks to answer how Mathematics teaching, mediated by the Workbook, can enhance the retention of students. Seven Mathematics teachers from EJA responded to a questionnaire via Google Forms, and the responses were categorized into: "Support for teaching," "Support for learning," "Adapted to the EJA audience," and "Auxiliary material for understanding everyday issues." The results indicate that the Workbook is feasible and relevant, guiding teaching practices and helping students relate content to everyday situations, promoting meaningful learning. The educational material facilitates teaching practices and motivates students to stay in school by showing the practical utility of the knowledge acquired. The proposed activities contextualize mathematics with everyday practice, improving academic performance and valuing students' experiences. The findings suggest that other knowledge areas could develop similar materials to reduce school dropout rates.
