Abstract

Due to the dynamics of the world, natural feeding has been replaced by both monotonous and industrialized food. Food and health issues are present in school curriculum and, consequently, in classrooms. In this context, we present a didactic sequence to address the theme of food plants based on a socioecological perspective of health, the history of science and decolonial pedagogy. The didactic sequence was built from excerpts from the manuscript of História das plantas alimentares e de gozo do Brasil written by the pharmacist and naturalist Theodoro Peckolt in the period of imperial Brazil. The details of each class of the didactic sequence proposed for high school students were described, and for the elaboration of the didactic sequence we consider the dimensions of the historical approach in the teaching of science that would be: epistemological, sociocultural and praxis. This didactic sequence is expected to foster the appreciation of various knowledge and the recognition of native foods in Brazil.
