Abstract

This article addresses conceptions about formal, non-formal and informal education, in addition to dialoguing about the history of soccer in Brazil, the social issues involved and the presence of mathematics for the understanding of this sport. The objective of this study was to propose a didactic sequence from the rescue of the history of the sport, as well as the non-formal spaces for the perception of science by the students of Basic Education, in order to establish practical relationships about soccer and the relevant mathematical knowledge in a more contextualized and more reflective way about reality. The justification of this work is given through the concern about the memorization of mathematical rules by the students, based on the exercise paradigm. The question posed is: will contextualizing the teaching of integers, proportionality and statistics make students perceive more meaning in mathematical contents? It is expected that, with the proposed activities, the teaching of mathematics will be more meaningful and contextualized for students and, in addition to mathematical concepts, it will also be reflected on social and political issues, aiming to form critical citizens and without prejudice of any origin.
