This article originates from the History Sub-project component of the Teaching
Initiation Program (Pibid). The research is grounded in the collaborative documentation of na educational initiative executed within a second-year high school cohort at the Cedup Abílio Paulo technical institution; it endeavors to evaluate the efficacy of history pedagogy in cultivating environmental consciousness through an examination of the historical development of the Criciúma River. The investigation utilizes a methodological approach centered on photographic analysis, drawing upon the scholarly contributions of historian Boris Kossoy. The implementation of photographs as an instructional instrument proved instrumental in generating student engagement with the subject content and in facilitating comprehension of the temporal transformations experienced by the municipality of Criciúma.
