This work intends to elucidate an experiment of academic intervention in a Santa Catarina basic education classroom. Starting with the choice of the theme centered around commemorative dates on the national calendar, a theoretical foundation about the Proclamation of the Republic of Brazil was used, aiming to bring this subject matter, its explanations and questionings into the classroom. Such a process was brought about by academic undergraduates in the History degree program at Unesc, who had their first oficial experiences with the classroom and teaching. That being the case, the goal is to understand, with the help of the source/medium “political cartoon”, the different approaches to teaching that historical subject in the school, as well as visualize the results brought about by the group’s intervention. In addition, of course, to recognizing the importance of these processes and the experiences obtained in the formation of the undergraduate students as future History teachers.
