Abstract

Given the growing development of textile and garment manufacturing industries in the northern region of Paraná state, this article aims to present a proposal for a hub dedicated to the collection and sorting of waste from discarded clothing, followed by its routing for circular and linear recycling. The methodology adopted for developing the proposal is qualitative and centers on an exploratory case study; we consulted literature, websites, and technical documents regarding the textile sector, focusing on sustainable practices adopted by manufacturers for collecting discarded clothing waste. The results indicate that circular recycling is adopted by some companies in the garment sector; however, there is no evidence of a clothing collection and sorting hub in northern Paraná to facilitate routing for circular or linear recycling. Thus, we present a ranking of companies located in northern Paraná and suggest a partnership among them to form a hub for the collection and subsequent recycling of clothing-derived materials. We conclude that the proposed collection hub could foster collaboration among sector companies and drive social, environmental, and governance development, thereby reducing clothing waste generation and contributing to environmental preservation. Regarding future prospects, we highlight the need for further studies on economic aspects and environmental impacts, as well as the development of an implementation plan for the collection hub.
