Abstract

The study examines the integration of sustainability practices and people management in micro and small enterprises in the Middle West of Santa Catarina, highlighting the importance of aligning these practices with organizational strategies. The qualitative research analyzed two companies participating in the Brasil Mais Program and the National Innovation Award. The results show that the program had a positive impact on the development of these companies, especially in people management and sustainability. Company E1 demonstrated a solid commitment with well-defined goals and sustainable practices, achieving a high level of conscious organizational sustainability. On the other hand, company E2, despite having progressed during the program, still needs to align its goals with sustainable practices and people management strategies to ensure its market permanence. The results suggest that future research should emphasize the importance of strategic alignment and the development of sustainable practices for the success of micro and small enterprises, especially during participation in business development programs.
