The ecstasy in the press

Abstract

The article analyzes the role of the press as a social actor during the campaign for the return of the direct elections, observing what the newspaper shows about the movement. Through texts and photography taken from the Santa Catarina’s newspapers O Estado, Jornal de Santa Catarina and A Notícia, an euphoria is noticed in a wide coverage about the manifestations that took place in Santa Catarina about the Diretas. There lies the need of studying the press as an opinionative part of fundamental importance that builds its own speech about a given epoch.
