This interview was conducted with Professor Dr. Maria Aparecida Viggiani Bicudo, by email, on September 1, 2025. In this dialogue, the professor tells us a little about her life and journey in Mathematics Education. A graduate in Pedagogy from the University of São Paulo (USP), she began her teaching career at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Rio Claro in 1966, at the FFCL of Rio Claro, which was one of the isolated institutes of the State of São Paulo that, in 1976, became part of the Paulista State University (UNESP). She completed her initial postgraduate studies at USP, the institution where she had completed her undergraduate degree, and under the guidance of Professor Dr. Maria José Garcia Werebe, she consolidated a strong connection with the fields of Education and Philosophy. This training was further deepened in her doctoral studies, defended at the FFCL of Rio Claro in 1973, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Joel Martins, and in the research developed for her Habilitation thesis. She participated in the creation of the stricto sensu Postgraduate Program in Mathematics Education and its Scientific and Philosophical Foundations (PPGEM), at the Rio Claro campus of UNESP. Throughout her academic life, she has participated in the training of numerous mathematics teachers, and currently has an active research group with more than 40 researchers, including her advisees and those advised by them, as well as postdoctoral interns.
