This research presents an analysis of Thomas Hobbes' political philosophy, specifically in relation to the Civil State and its constitution as a sovereign State. To carry out this proposal, the text is divided into two sections, the first section being an investigation into the idea of the rational State, where the nuances of the State of Nature and the transition to the Civil State are worked on, contrasting, now, the characteristics this in relation to that; in the second section, the research turns to the form of the Civil State in contemporary times, a moment in which today's complexities are opposed to the Hobbesian State. Finally, the conclusion points to the need to rethink the Leviathan in contemporary times given the various and profound local and global changes, from which the restructuring of the Hobbesian Civil State is of necessity and importance.
