Abstract

This article presents a case study of the elaboration and implementation of the “Zero Waste Udesc” program as a strategic guideline of the Institutional Development Plan (PDI 2017-2021) as a consequence of the sustainability policy named Udesc Sustentável at Santa Catarina State University (Udesc). The article presents the phases and time frame that led to the creation of the Zero Waste Udesc program, systematizes the main developments and reports on actions, initiatives and the main results obtained by related actions and projects, such as the creation and institutionalization of the Udesc Zero Waste Week, creation of the Zero Waste Sector Seal, the first Zero Waste University Games and the Lages composting method. Finally, the article brings the evaluation on advances and difficulties based on the PDI and the goals established in accordance with the common objectives of the Zero Waste International Academic Cooperation Network - NIZAC.
