Abstract

The book "Political Corruption and Republicanism: The Loss of Liberty according to Jean-Jacques Rousseau" by Vital Alves (developed from his doctoral thesis in philosophy, "Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the Dangers of Political Corruption in the Republic," defended at UFG in 2017) aims to investigate Rousseau's republican thought through the lens of the discussion about the corruption of political bodies. Although the theme of corruption in regimes is very old in the history of thought, Rousseau integrates into this tradition by contributing in an original way.
